ODESK...

Many freelancers are successful by freelancing at odesk.com. I myself is a freelancer on odesk and I have done some projects there. I can't say that I'm the best there but I can tell about some simple TIPS on how you can get a job if you are a new contractor.

When I was starting at odesk.com, I was confused coz I really can't get hired for weeks. I remember when I only have 2 job application quota and that pulls me to discontinue on this. However, I thought about the saying  "Success begins with hardwork!" and that made me go on.

I reviewed some great tips which are on the site itself and this is what I can advise you.

First, COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE by filling all the required information. Actually when I signed up on odesk as a contractor, I did not fill up all of those required information and I noticed it that it won't go to 100% completeness if some was left blank.

Second, PASS THE ODESK READINESS TEST. Actually, there are some cheats on the internet but I recommend you to take the answers on the website itself. There are 11 questions to be asked and on each question, you will be asked to review on the topic that the question is asking. It's pretty easy actually but that is when you at least read the topic. Here is some link that may useful for you on this test http://maketakaonline.com/2010/07/how-to-pass-odesk-readiness-test/

Note, these links don't really show you the exact sentences of the questions. Odesk have managed to reword or scramble it. And you should perfect this test, no question should be left or answered wrong because there is no consideration here.

Third, TAKE SKILL TEST as much as you can to level up and make as much as 20 job application quotas per week. Choose a skill test to take according to your skills of course. You may also be a winner and be rewarded if you have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd...

Fourth, FEED YOUR PORTFOLIO. If you are a graphic designer, you can upload directly on odesk your graphic design works. If you are any contractor other than graphic designer, you can snapshot your workpage and upload it to your odesk portfolio. This is a great way to show off your skills on the field of your expertise.

Fifth, A GREAT COVER LETTER is the first way to get in touch with an employer/client. This is what they review when you apply to their job postings. Note: Be honest in applying with your cover letter. Show them that you fully understand their job description or ask questions when you don't understand something. If  you are new, don't act like you are the best, don't be so boastful. https://www.odesk.com/blog/2010/05/how-to-write-a-cover-letter/
